Math Foundations: Levels B & C

Service Description

This Math Foundations course is designed to cover some vital math skills as your child approaches, or is in the thick of, more advanced math concepts and courses. Your child is welcome to attend whether they are refreshing themselves on these skills and seeking new strategies, or if they are entirely new to the concepts! We have a different focus, or focuses, each day which every student will be learning, whether they have learned them before or not. These concepts are chosen intentionally, both as something that is essential in later mathematics courses and curriculum, and as concepts which many students struggle to understand even up to and past graduation. These struggles often lead to deeper math struggles. If you could leave a note in your registration form under ‘other comments’ if you have other thoughts, that would be awesome! The Plan: Day 1: Multiplication tables Day 2: Fractions, Decimals, Percents Day 3: Exponents and Order of Operations Objectives: The goal of this course will be to solidify understanding in these areas which are crucial, either for life or as one moves forward in their mathematics life. There are three primary ways I see this being done. While there will be a lot of classroom learning, there will be opportunities for students to participate during the lessons, answering questions, and working things through together. It is also my goal to have some fun math related games sprinkled in with the teaching times in order to create memories to associate with concepts. And lastly, a major part in learning math is repetition, so there would be worksheets handed out to be done at home as well.
