Service Description

During this course we will be diving into the Olympic games, the history of the event, the cultures involved, the workings of the games including looking into different sports, and of course the 2026 games themselves. I grew up loving to follow the Olympic games, the unique sports, and seeing different countries, cultures and flags I had not been previously exposed to. I am excited to be able to provide a course where other students can do the same thing. This is designed for all ages, though some assignments may need to be modified for lower levels or ages, you can discuss that with me if you believe it to be an issue. There will be teaching time during this course as well as a couple fun geography games, but a large part of the course will be focussed on different hands-on projects and assignments. These could be in the form of posters, essays, timelines, videos, or other creative ideas! This allows students to be engaged, actively researching and learning about aspects of the Olympics which are interesting to them. Whether that is a specific sport, country, culture or piece of history. The plan is to cover the following concepts, whether through class time, or projects/assignments. The plan is to provide class time for some of the projects: -How to research and cite sources -Learning country flags -The history of the Olympics -Learning about the 2026 host cities (Milan and Cortina) -Studying the sports -Creating an essay or other creative assignment (topics to be discussed) -Tracking the 2026 Olympics and certain countries participating Just a note, multiple of these projects will require research to be done at home so students will need to have access to a laptop, computer or other means to do research (Books or the computers at a library may work as well!). They would also benefit from having a laptop or something to do research to bring to class, but it is not necessary. Expect approximately 4-6 different assignments to be done during this course. Objectives: The goal of this course is to combine the fun of sports, geography, history, flags, and culture all into one, which really is what the Olympics do! The goal is to gain an understanding about other cultures and the significance of this event, and to show that understanding in the assignments created. If you have any questions about the course, topics, or possible assignments please do not hesitate to contact Ben at, ben@elfaro.ca, or to contact the school directly see the contact details
